This piece of exquisite writing, by
and , is perhaps one of the most delightful pieces I’ve ever had to honor to publish. Go read this beautiful thing, and also please consider following both writers (each of whom also has a substack). You can also read it here. Also, as you maybe know, Substack has implemented a new ‘social media’ function called Notes. As you maybe also know, I left social media for a reason, and I’m far from convinced that Notes will be that much better. When people left Facebook and Twitter for Mastadon and all the others, I shrugged, because I never thought it was the owners or the business model that was the problem with the feeds. Instead, it’s that we’re all far too long staring at screens, having clipped one-way conversations, rather than engaging in the hard but beautiful work of learning to be human together.
Still, I’ll occasionally post things there, just as I’ve needed to keep an automated presence on the other feeds, so feel free to follow me there. Just please know that I’d much rather experience your humanity, rather than your virtual traces.
Gorgeous piece which deals with my current watershed -- Near Aurora currently? ;-) In Binghamton for the last 10 years myself. Absolutely adored the exchange.
Lovely read, thank you!
