A quote appropriate for this talk - from Sacred and Herbal Healing Beers by Stephen Harrod Buhner

“Great forests, when they attain a certain age, take on an inhabited state. There is a conscious and living presence in the forest. This does not occur in young forests and any forest that is extensively logged will lose this living presence. Humans have grown as a species in long relationship with this forest presence - a presence that possesses intelligence, awareness, and consciousness - and we are immediately aware of it wherever we encounter it. The loss of the great forests thus deprives us of something deeply necessary to our humanity.”
