He translates Ovid into a kind of jaunty iambic pentameter with some rimes and off-rimes. The lyrical epic (?) is divided into books, and I've just been through a couple of later books that play with gender transformations. Wait. You mean people thought about such things before gender theory was promulgated by U.S. Academe?
In any case, the lyrical assumption throughout the poetry that things are in constant change, constantly flow, making and unmaking relations is lovely. And many people turn into trees.
