Good luck with you shoulder. I had the same issue sounds like, diagnosed after an ultrasound. In my case muscles pressing on nerve after work (expanded muscles), the nerve caught between a calcified bone (injury). I tried hundreds of dollars worth of “fixes” , mostly exotic, until a friend who’s a TCM doctor gave me some hekla lava homeopathy, PLUS: “polarity method” of acupressure, which I do myself whenever it flares up:
gently move opposite shoulder to the ankle I am depressing aggressively with my forefinger in to that little indent/ divet on the inside of the ankle joint - works every time. Pain goes away within hours and it lasts! Try it. It’s free
Yeah they are! But their primary popularity is the compound nature and therefore the time efficiency factor. Seems so many trainers push those because their clients want to get a full body workout done in 45 minutes (à la Crossfit). But I actually prefer really long sessions (now at 2.5 hours 3x week), so it's not a problem for me to replace them with more localized stuff (barbell hip thrusts, back extensions, and single leg presses.)
I did wonder if you might not be overdoing it - I have the same question about my 20 year old son! There's got to be some point where the body says okay, pay attention to balance and what's natural now. Muscle mass building seems really addictive...

Yeah same thing here, essentially. Bone scarring getting inflamed by the muscle pressure.
Will definitely try the acupressure trick you mentioned, thanks!
I second the passive hanging. It really works. Looks a little funny in the gym but whatevs
Fortunately everyone in my gym is already quite accustomed to me looking funny there! :)
But...but.....but..... squats and deadlifts and kettlebell swings are fun!!!! :-D
Glad you have a better understanding of the shoulder dynamics and a path forward......

More accurately, "overdoing it in one muscle group." So I'm working on expanding other muscles so they can catch up with my shoulders.
And I'm not sure addictive is quite the right word. I'd opt for "liberating." :)
Men! 😂
